Web Development Perceptions
During the learning of this chapter we learned how to set up HTML with the initial information that tells the web how it wants your page to appear. Then we explored how to write with HTML and what each of the commands mean and does. Including how to wrap the text to make a word bold or emphasized. We also learned how to make the headings, titles, paragraphs, comments, and how to link a picture to the website or webpage.
I believe that once you have the knowledge about web design you will gain a lot of opportunities. Everything is going over to the web, company’s all want a site so they have some advertising out of the web. Which if you know how to write a webpage, you will be able to work for anyone who needed that service. Web development is going a lot of places and seems to be growing every day. We have surrounded our life’s now depending on the world wide web and technology to gather more knowledge.
I wanted to gain more information on HTML to help build my own website so I would be able to sell a lot of glass and jewelry that my friend and I bought or made. I would also like to have the knowledge just so I have the knowledge, so I am not behind with the times of today.
HTML History
Over the last week we have learned how to link a page to another page, so you just have to click the link and it will take you straight to where you told it to take you. Other words, we are learning to do hyperlinks. We also learned how turn a picture into a link. This will help if you had a home at the button, with the picture hyperlink you can click on the house and it will take you home. That is because we learned how to create hyperlinks and navigate their path for them.
Since HTML has come out in 1989 from Tim Berners, society has been through 4 revisions, and we are currently using XHTML 1.1. One of the main reasons we have been making changes and updates to the programs is because our technology is expanding. Each time they upgrade they need to upgrade HTML to be able to match the new technology. For example for HTML 3 they gained the knowledge to wrap text and customize more fro creativity. We will continue to update and expand the abilities on HTML as our technology grows and expands. This is so we can continuously make sure everything will be compatible and easy to read from the web.
CSS History
CSS or also known as Cascading Style Sheet is used for presentation. You have to have a CSS style sheet applied to help make your website unique and easy to read because it is interesting. If you have more then one page to your website, then you would also use the CSS style sheet to add consistency to your web pages. They will hold the same design to help make your site easy to read, professional as well as organized. CSS will allow you to position the text, format the font, as well as positioning images.
Unlike HTML, CSS has been through many versions and the most current one today that is being used is CSS 2.1. All brewers are supposed to support CSS in the same ways, so it will be the same across all browsers, however, not all are cross-browsers support. There are some browsers that will appear different, or read the width and height different, therefore, it is a great idea to check all browsers beforehand.
I feel the same about HTML and CSS as I did before. I am still interested in knowing a lot of the commands, and how to apply which ones to make what text do certain things. Not all are to be remembered at once, however, now that CSS has been introduced to style the HTML, I find myself more confused when I am on my own. I have ideas, but do not know how to apply what CSS sectors and how to apply them to the text to allow them to do what I want. This is the process of learning though, and will continue to learn more about CSS as well as HTML to expand my current website I am making.
Web Design
After reading the article I found that it is true with most to everything you are going to do for a client. If you were to build a million dollar house, you would want to make sure to listen carefully to see that your design is going to satisfy your client. You do need a blueprint that represents easy navigation, logos, or any other features you are going to add. You need to make the page easy to read, but fancy with designs. The idea of the design would be to have both of them even through the webpage. You do not want to much white space, but at the same time, you do not want to take all of the white space out. This will create an unfriendly website for the users to use and navigate.
I found that it was most interesting that there is a lot to take into consideration for building a webpage. I always figured before you would draw out some boxes, outline what content is going to be in those, picking some colors that are easy to read and mesh together well. However, after reading all that has to be taking into consideration, it is just as or more complicated than what it seems. You have to symmetrically draw out your plans, as well as every other page that you are going to link to. CSS can make that a lot easier since you can make style sheets, but I still find it very interesting that not only building the website can be difficult, but all the lies around building a website, is design and how you are going to put it all together to form an easy to read page. However, I did want to be a designer once, so I suspected it to be similar, just did not realize there was a lot more symmetric involved.
Out of the box

Tables vs. CSS
After reading the following article Table vs CSS it made me realize how much CSS plays a role into making a website what it is and not to mention more friendly user for those creating the website. You can also see that to use HTML to do the table and website is a lot of writing and code to know as well as to orginize to get the final result. After he explains using CSS it seemed to take him a lot quicker and it was not as much coding, but more CSS style coding. Not to mention that using HTML to create a table he ran into an issue not knowing how to take the line out of under the links. He spent more time looking up how to do something then and why we had limitations on doing something then he did making the table. I think that CSS does help us create websites that are more creative, since it gives you the ability to design quicker. The final production also is a lot cleaner and easier to read once you have colors and design to the words.
Specificity
As I was reading the article I was thinking about how those making a website for a client really gets started. You first need an idea and lay it out so you have a blue print to work with. However, one thing that I forgot that this article was descibing is the specifics of what codes are going to do what and which order they need to be in. If you do not put them in a correct order, then some may be ignored or over-ruled. I ran into this issue a few times while making my website. Just starting it takes a minute to find your real error, because everything you have coded are the correct codes. You just have to go back to the ruling and figure out what it is doing and which code you put in before it telling it do this. Once you have gone back and figured this out then you can continue with coding and designing. This article makes you think about that one extra step of preparation so you know which codes you need first and which overrule in the priority list.
Final Project Experience
I found that the final project was not the easy. I understood the demands, but just to figure out a layout and how you are going to put all the information together is tougher then it looks. I got most to all of it done, then got sick and took a break yesterday. I found that once you leave and then try and come back it is actually harder to figure out where you left off, then it would have been to complete it all in one sitting. Then once it was completed go back through and continue with touch ups and the design to have it lok exactly the way you wanted it too. I also found that you do need to layout the priorities, but luckly I was able to look into some different websites we set up together in calss to help me figure out why commands were not working the way I entended for them to work.
