This was definitely a good starting place. I have been teaching myself web design for several years and have really enjoying it. One thing that I’m enjoying is filling in all the gaps of things I didn’t figure out in the past few years.
Most of this chapters code I was familiar with using, but It was great to put words with the abbreviations for example dl being Definition list. It’s hard to say all the things that I have learned this chapter because I found each part very helpful to understanding the language of the web.
I am not exactly sure where all the web design industry is heading but one thing I did realize is the language is constantly changing and also building on the core foundation of html. It seams with the rapid growth of technology its extremely important to continue to grow and expand as the technology demands it. I think there is still a demand for web developers because our industry is going very mobile and internet oriented. I think more jobs involve computers then ever before and more companies are trying to get online then ever before. For occupations I would hope there is many options but some off the top of my head of course Web designer. Computer programmer. Even Graphic artists use web. Artists need portfolios...Advertising. I’m sure there are many more.
Journal Entry 2 - HTML History.
I learned many things in this chapter. Most of the content was about adding links and images in various different directions. I feel as though I’m being broadened to see more link options then ones I’ve used as well as a refining of more terms coupled together with comprehension. At first it was a little bit of an overload. But I’m starting to work it and understand the different options. I’m looking forward to trying some. The image map area was very interesting to me. It seems the new programs in web design do a ton of the work for you so you don’t have to mess with coords as much, but you can focus on visuals. It really expanded me.
It seems to me that the world had a need to spread information in a way that linked people across the world that was fast and efficient, and when they creators started developing the code they were only just breaking the surface with the possibilities. Also I seemed to notice that the different parties were working toward a common goal. simply communication and I find that interesting. I think they is definitely room for growth. I think we just broke the surface. But I’m not exactly sure what’s next.
Journal Entry 3 - CSS History
I think CSS has many beneficial aspects. One major factor for me is allows you to develop a strong theme in the way text is displayed and used in your site. Because of the huge growth of online marketing for pretty much any business or product and so on.. its extremely valuable in creating individuality and professionalism. The way web design has gone since the beginning the demand for cutting edge design and technology is growing and becoming even more competitive, and we need the ability to build sites in a completely new and fresh way.
I would define the purpose of HTML as the system of code and standards that projects information across the world, while I would define css as the system of rules that allows the html text to follow new rules of formation as greater depths.
I believe CSS 2.1 is the most supported and used style. CSS3 has been in development for years but it seems its not finished yet. I also believe CSS3 will be a massive refining of old ideas coupled with the need of the online world to display information such as interaction and live information.
Personally I found it interesting how they spent years developing a system that still has issues. I find today I still run into cross browser issues and It’s so interesting to me how the technology still needs work, and definitely has more room to improve even though it still has come so far.
Journal Entry 4 - Web Design
I found the article about web design very interesting. I really like the way it covered various topics and examples across the web design field. I felt it challenged me in my thinking of why I design things the way I design them and gave me some ideas for improvement as well as areas that I haven’t thought of. I was pleased to see that much of it I have already discovered and implemented. I found several things interesting about the article, but one thing that caught my attention was the limited use of right side navigation and Its pushing me to give it a try. I also enjoyed the website layout examples part which is inspiring me to expand the way I build a composition. I really enjoyed going through the different css sites because I discovered things I haven’t seen before. Overall I found the beginning basic design areas such as “emphasis” dry, mostly because its old news I have been thinking on for years. Another thing I found especially interesting is I’m starting to see that the web design world is so vast with many different sides to it. I’m excited to grow!
