Learning Journal #1 — Initial Thoughts
I was introduced to more about the DTD (document type definition), Im used to programming with the Strict DTD. This class is my first exposure to ASP.NET, So far from what I have seen and heard from others ASP.NET along with PHP fits nicely into the scheme of web development. If I was asked at a party what a web programmer was and why anyone would want to be one? My response would be. A web programmer gets to tell a computer what to do, with this I mean a programmer gives information in a logical way that the computer can understand. They design applications, programs, and web pages that are used by a web browser. A web page is made up of code, and when you access the web page in a web browser you don’t see the code, but you see the esthetic view (art) of the webpage, that was created by the code. It may take time to get used to but if you are interested in web programming, I would recommend you try it and learn more about it to see if it is something you would like to do.
Learning Journal #2 — .NET Languages
After doing some research about VB.net and C#, it seems that the people who like VB are bashing C#, and vice versa. There aren’t many people who like both. What I have seen of C# and in comparison of VB.net it seems like C# is easier to write than VB.net. When visual basics came out my dad bought the program and worked a little on it creating the “hello” project. Perhaps if I would have paid more attention at that time, and worked with him on the projects my mind would be in favoring VB instead of C#. A lot of people stick to what they are used to, by this I mean if I was using VB and all of a sudden I was introduced to C#, I would favor VB because it is a programming language I know and am familiar with. Last semester I was introduced to C# in an intro to programming class, since this is the only program language I have looked up, studied, and have been introduced to, that is the reason I would have to side with C#.
