Wind Power

Wind Turbine

The Power of wind energy has been used by humans for as long as recorded history, and probably even longer. Today when “Wind Power” is mentioned most people probably think of giant wind mills that create electricity but that is not all of what the wind can offer us. Wind power that every day people use all around the world is to dry their laundry on a line with some help from the sun.

Wind energy can diversify the economies of rural communities, adding to the tax base and providing new types of income. Wind turbines can add a new source of property taxes in rural areas that otherwise have a hard time attracting new industry. In Texas, for every 1,000 megawatts (MW) of new wind, the industry creates 2,959 jobs during construction (over 1-2 years), and 435 local long-term jobs. 1,000 MW of new wind provides the Texas economy a total benefit of $1.2 billion.
