Web Development Perceptions
Tutorial 1 is an introduction to HTML, XHTML, and CSS, as well as the basic fundamentals of how the internet works. Many years ago, shortly after I had used the internet for the first time, I had a new found interest in website creation. One thing I remember well was all the different files that were required to make the website, thus the “Managing your files” portion of this tutorial reminded me about an important part of website design and organization. As far as my current perception of web design goes, HTML is the bare minimum of what is currently possible on websites in general. Flash and HTML5 will bring many extended features, but more importantly media specific features. The other side is that these features are now also possible on smart phone devices, which is amazing. Ever since I had the first mobile internet in my pocket, I always wondered if getting into mobile website design wouldn’t be a bad idea considering smart phones are the future. I cannot believe how powerful my current Android phone is compared to the phones of the past, and it can show full Desktop style websites with ease. Interestingly the phone excels at web based applications. Lastly a thought on mobile devices would be the upcoming Chromium OS from Google, which will be a great alternative OS for netbooks, and other computing devices. I have tested a beta of it and was very impressed with it, especially with its incredible ability to boot up in under 10 seconds, but more interestingly, the fact that its purpose is to only run web applications. I can see this as the start of “Cloud computing” and that when it succeeds, we very may well see all future software sold and / or ran directly from the internet.
